Fly Spray For Horses

DIY All Natural Horse Sprays To Protect Against Flies

If you`re around horses or farms for any length of time you`ll know that there are flies and insects quite literally everywhere. More often than not they`re just annoying, but it`s not good for your horse and there are also insects out there that bite and sting, so it`s important to know how to prevent this kind of unfortunate incidents from happening.

Happy horse, happy owner is what they say. So if you`re horse is stung, we guarantee you won`t be happy either. While you can buy some natural horse sprays you can also make them yourself, which is both cost-effective but also fun. Here are a few easy recipes for making your own horse spray to protect your horse against flies and insects and yourself if you`re desperate.

Fly Spray #1

What you`ll need:

- 2 cups of white vinegar

- 1 tbsp Eucalyptus oil

- One cup water

Simple Fly Spray Recipe

Just combine all of these ingredients into a bottle and shake well. It`s super easy and cheap to make, but the downside is that it only lasts for about 45 minutes to an hour, so it`s not good for long-term use or to put on your horse before they go out in the field for the night.

Fly Spray #2

- 1/2 hair conditioner

- 3 tbsp Eucalyptus oil

- 1/2 cup baby oil

- Fill up the rest of the bottle with water

Like the first recipe, combine all these ingredients into a spray bottle and then shake to mix it all together. This spray also lasts not longer than an hour, and is more useful for when the horse is in the barn rather than outside in the field.

Fly Spray #3

- 1 tsp peppermint oil

- 1 tsp tea tree oil

- 1 tsp Idaho Tansy oil

- 1 tsp lemongrass oil

- 1 tsp lavender oil

- 3 tsp white vinegar

- Water to fill the bottle

No Flies On Me

Combine all of these in a bottle and then shake. This fly spray works very well and lasts the longest of all of these and it also smells divine, whereas store-bought ones can smell very chemically. Your horse will enjoy it and it will always keep the flies and insects off of them when they`re out in the field.

Making homemade and DIY all-natural fly sprays is a great way to keep you and your horse happy and safe in the summer, but it`s also important to experiment with different ones to see which ones work best. Your horse might even have a preference with the smell, but at least with these fly sprays you know that they`ll be completely safe, which is the most rewarding part.
